Thankful Sunday... A Day Late

Oops!  I forgot to do my Thankful Sunday post yesterday!  And it was Easter and all!

Oh well, better late than never.  So this week, I am thankful for:

A blissful four day weekend, cool and rainy, that I could just relax and enjoy.  It was just a nice mix of mooching at home and social activity.  It's rained all weekend (my favourite kind of weather) and I've enjoyed watching movies and reading when I'm not socialising.

I'm also thankful that the lovely Adriana called me up last week and invited me to the football on Saturday night.  I got to see the Brisbane Lions soundly thrash the Sydney Swans for the first time in about 5 years.  Always a great thing, to whale on Sydney.  I enjoyed the evening with Adriana and her lovely nephew.

And to end this thankful post, I'm thankful for you my readers!  Every time I log in and spot a comment from someone, it reminds me why I write this blog.  Don't be shy if you read, just say hello so I know you're there.

Thankful Sunday

Sunday night rolls around again.  I am back at work tomorrow after three weeks annual leave, and I'm quite sure it's going to be a bit of a shock to the system!  I am going to attempt to have an early night tonight.

Being Sunday night, it's time for my weekly reflection on the things I am thankful for.

Well, to start with, I am very thankful that I've been able to have three weeks off work, just relaxing and taking some time out to get my head together, get some priorities right in my life.  I feel so much better for it.  I feel like I've taken a very deep breath of good, fresh air.

I'm thankful for the lovely weekend I have just had with 5 other ladies, in the beautiful Eumundi Guesthouse.  I had a wonderful weekend of "girl time" which is something I don't get to do very often.  I laughed, had great conversation, admired shoes and clothes, relaxed, shopped and generally just enjoyed the company of these five lovely ladies.  A special thank you to Nicole who invited me.

And finally for this week, I am thankful that there are so many people who missed me online while I was away over the weekend!  Thanks for all your comments, posts and emails my lovely friends!

Thankful Sunday

Is it really Sunday already?  Another week of my holidays has passed so quickly.  Why do work weeks not pass this quickly?

Let's see, what am I thankful for this week?

Well, I've had a really mellow week, just chillin' and enjoying my holiday.  I've been feeling so relaxed and mellow, it's done me the world of good.

I'm also thankful that I got to go and see Watchmen on Friday with my friend Kylie.  It's a bit hard to follow (as was V for Vendetta for that matter) but really enjoyable.  Awesome costumes, well cast, a good meaty story (around the bits that lost  me a little) and great sets and special effects.  Plus hanging out with Kylie is always cool too.

Friday was a big day, because I also went out to see Adam Hills on Friday night, at the New Farm Powerhouse.  It was the opening night of his new tour "Inflatable", and we were the second ever audience.  Better than the first, because he was all warmed up for us.  God he was funny, I think I burst a kidney.  No really, I think I damaged a kidney laughing so  hard!  My favourite line from the whole night.  It is thus:

"Going to Starbucks for coffee is like going to prison for sex.  You'll get some but it will be rougher than you're used to."

Brilliant line Mr Hills!

Holding Out for a Hero (or Trying to Be One!)

Just a little blog today, a little something for those of you who read, and to keep current.

I am officially on three weeks holiday from work.  I think I've kind've had a bit of an energy collapse in the past 24 hours, it's like my body has heard my brain say "Woohoo, I'm on holiday!" and responded with a very firm "Lie DOWN!!"  I don't have a lot of energy just at the moment, and I feel kind of like I'm coming down with something, but I think that's just that beginning of holiday crash.  You know how it is, when you push yourself too hard, and don't take your time, when you DO stop, you kind of fall over.

So I am going to listen to my body, have a little bit of a mooch over the next day or so, and not just leap into all of the fun things I want to do while I have some time until I've recharged a little.  I need to stop trying to be a hero.

And on the subject of being heroes, I was faffing about this morning and found this cute website that you can make your own superhero.  Check mine out...

You'd Betta Work!

Why is it infinitely more exhausting to teach someone your job than to just do it yourself?

At the moment, 'Berto is on two week's leave. We have the lovely Luke in to help out, and instead of totally freaking him out with 'Berto's job, we've kind of mashed his job and mine together, I'll do all the complex bits that take a long time to kind of get into, and Luke is doing the bits I can just show him how to do and let him run with it.

He's great, picking things up at lightning speed, using lots of common sense and is really keen to have a go.

But I'm worn down to a nub! It's exhausting me to explain what I do and step out how I do it. Mostly because I'm not used to actually thinking about it, I just get in there and chug along and do what needs to be done.

It's good though, because it highlights just how complex the work that we do is. Plus I love the opportunity to "convert" people into understanding why we harp on about the things we harp on about. When seen from our perspective, it's understood that we're not being pedantic, or making procedures and policies just for something to do. When you're the one who has to correct hundreds of records in a database every week, you start to get a bit narky about people not entering them correctly in the first place. When you have to track down millions of dollars worth of assets, following procedural steps to receipt new stock and dispose old stock is of vital importance.

I booked some leave for March today. Three whole weeks off work, which the boss has approved. I don't plan to do a real lot, spend some time with my Grandparents but the rest shall be swanning about doing all the things I seem to never have enough time to do. Lots of reading, some socialising, some relaxing, some movies... just generally recharging the batteries.

Bring on March I say!
